Lincoln Connects

Our Community Connections programme got off to an exciting launch on Tuesday 16th September, with Lincoln becoming the first UK community to sign up through it’s commitment to Kermi village.

A lively event was held at the White Hart Hotel near the Cathedral, attended by the Mayor and Mayoress, key community members, and Rotarians from Lincoln and the district. The project to twin with Kermi village will be led by the Rotarians of Lincoln Colonia, and will see all four Lincoln Rotary Clubs joining together: Lincoln Colonia, Lincoln, Lindum Lincoln & Bailgate Lincoln.

Over the next three years, in return for raising funds, Lincoln will receive regular news and updates on what’s happening in Kermi, in the hope of gaining an inspiring insight and understanding into the villagers’ way of life. The money raised by Lincoln will go towards funding ongoing costs of our projects in Kermi (health post, micro-hydro power plant) and specific equipment and programme development (e.g. staff training) within Humla.

To complete the two way exchange, plans are underfoot for a group from Lincoln to take up the challenge to trek to Kermi in the future, to meet the villagers they are helping face to face.

The Nepal Trust team in Kathmandu made this short film to welcome Lincoln onto the programme.
