Rosie Swale-Pope

She's been described as "sailor, voyager, adventurer, gaucho, cross countries runner, trekker, mountaineer and free spirit extraordinaire", her achievements range from sailing single-handed across the Atlantic to riding across Chile on horseback to running across the Sahara.  She's written books, made films and raised thousands of pounds for charity.

Rosie Swale Pope is truly a modern day hero.

Rosie TrekIn April 2003, Rosie Swale Pope set out on an incredible journey, to run from one end of Nepal to the other; 1700km across the rooftop of the world.  The trek was in aid of and organised by the Nepal Trust.  Rosie was accompanied en-route by a support team of Nepal Trust staff, including Pema Dolma Lama, Nepal Trust health worker, then just 22 years old.

The team not only succeeded, they created a new world record, covering the staggering distance in just 68 days!

Rosie’s Trek raised over $8000 US in Nepal alone, mainly from Rotary Clubs and remote area people. This money was used to help sponsor a health camp at the district headquarters of Simikot, Humla.

Barely six months after returning to the UK, Rosie set off on possibly the biggest challenge conceivable - to run around the world.  Nearly five years and 43 pairs of shoes later, she's on the home straight...

Rosie is expecting to reach the UK at the beginning of April, and head down through Scotland, England and into Wales, to the finish line at her home in Tenby.

The Nepal Trust are honoured that Rosie has chosen us as one of her supoprted charities.  We would like to thank Rosie for her support throughout the trek and wish her every success on the final legs of this incredible challenge.

Please visit her website.

If you're inspired by Rosie, there are plenty of ways that you can challenge yourself without committing to five years travelling!  Whatever you decide to do, whether it's running, cycling or even sitting in a bath of beans, think of the people of Humla, and do something for them.

In the meantime, while you're planning that great challenge, why not make a donation in support of Rosie's homecoming.
